Residency: PNI Burren College of Art 2026 recipient announced

Thank you to everyone who applied for this year’s Print Network Ireland Burren College of Art residency. The selected artist is:

Emily Mc Gardle (Black Church Print Studio)

Comhghairdeas mór Emily! Emily will spend two weeks at Burren College of Art. The residency will include a print workshop, talk or demonstration to be given by the recipient to the graduate, postgraduate students, other arts residents and members of the public.

During the residency, Emily plans to experiment with making small amounts of screenprinting ink from foraged plants growing in abundance near the College, as part of her practice of making her own plant-based screenprinting inks made entirely from native Irish plant materials. Using the inks as a starting point, she will also make watercolour paint which could then be used to create watercolour screenprinted monotypes, and watercolour intaglio monotypes in the print studio.

During the residency period she would also hope to meet with former PhD student Katerina Gribkoff to learn about the dye garden which she established in the College. She plans to use ‘The Wild Plants of the Burren and the Aran Islands’ by Charles Nelson and The Wildflowers of Ireland A Field Guide’ by Zoe Devlin to identify rare wildflowers which are unique to the Burren, especially those which have a history of use in dyeing.

This is the inaugural residency at Burren College of Art for a member of Print Network Ireland (PNI).
