2024 PNI inter-studio residency, Dylan Buckley- Limerick Printmakers to Graphic Studio Dublin

Dylan Buckley- Limerick Printmakers to Graphic Studio Dublin 2024

We are delighted to have Dylan Buckley with us at Graphic Studio Dublin on our inaugural PNI Inter-Studio Residency. Dylan is a member of Limerick Printmakers and a recent graduate of LSAD. He has completed residencies at Art Print Residency (2023), Catalonia, and at Frans Masereel Centrum, (2024) Belgium.

Dylan’s printmaking specializes in the intaglio process of collagraph, using combinations of cardboard plates, roll-ups and drypoint. He says this of his process: ‘This allows me to utilise and adapt found objects while stripping them of the standard properties/signifiers they possess. This elevation of form is a direct response to the Arte Povera movement which sought to ‘bridge the gap between art and the everyday’. This ethos has motivated the use of discarded or overlooked material and for its value to be re-examined within a hierarchical structure, transitioning from waste to an artefact worthy of attention.

‘In reflection of my time at Graphic Studio Dublin, I am made aware of how pivotal the opportunity has been in continuing my professional development. I first became aware of the studio and its members through visits to the Graphic Studio Gallery as a college student seeking creative inspiration. Witnessing what could be achieved in the processes I valued most at a formative point in my practice had a significant and lasting impression. I made note of artist’s works and continued to follow their practice for a number of years. To be given the opportunity to share the studio space with those I deeply admire elevated the standard I hope to achieve with my practice. The willingness to exchange information and partake in conversations around the discipline further solidified to me how vital community spaces like this are to the enrichment of artist’s development. I also wish to acknowledge the continuous support from the Graphic team during my residency, offering technical advice and reassurance which made the experience so welcoming and productive.’  Dylan Buckley (Graphic Studio Dublin May-June 2024)
