2023-2024 PNI Centre Culturel Irlandais Residency Shane O’Driscoll (Cork Printmakers)

The 2023-2024 PNI Residency was awarded to Shane O’Driscoll from Cork Printmakers, who spent the month of October 2023 in Paris.

“Having the time in Paris to develop new work and also explore the galleries and museums was an amazing experience.

It’s a rare opportunity to get such an extended period of time to fully focus on my work and having a designated studio is a huge benefit. Meeting creatives from other disciplines in the centre also added to my learnings in new areas of arts and culture.

I planned to experiment with new ideas and create a project in response to my time in Paris. As there is no printmaking resources in the centre, I spent a lot of time developing work to be completed at home, but also made some lino prints while there as it was possible to set up a small print station in the studio.

I couldn’t recommend the residency highly enough. The staff and other artists in residence all added to the experience and being in Paris certainly ignited new ideas for my work and I look forward to returning there. The Centre’s location is in the Latin Quarter, a beautiful old part of Paris, close to the city centre, so it’s quite easy to spend time working in the studio and going into town to see exhibitions or explore Paris in a day.”
