Spitbite Masterclass with Ailbhe Barrett

An intermediate level course, for those with some familiarity with intaglio printmaking processes, Ailbhe will guide you through the process of spitbite and advise on another etched plate to complement your image. The workshop will focus on producing atmospheric prints using colour and tone. As students will be working from their own ideas, we would prefer you to bring a drawing or painting you have made yourself as source material. The plate size we work on is 15 x 18 cm – Please make drawings to fit this size. Participants will be provided with all the key materials needed to make a print. It is necessary for each participating artist to bring: an apron, pencils, pens and paintbrushes and a notebook.
Ailbhe Barrett is an award winning artist, working in printmaking and painting. Mostly self-taught, she developed a liking for the scope of the large canvas from a young age, and later joined Limerick Printmakers and Graphic Studio Dublin to explore her skills in printmaking. Her work is concerned with place, memory, our relationship and response to our surroundings. Permanent Collections include the National Gallery of Ireland, the OPW, British Library and Northern Ireland Arts Council.
