Led by Johnny Bugler
Date & location Thursday 3 August 2023 at Graphic Studio Dublin
Photopolymer printmaking utilises a light activated printmaking plate that is etched without the need for acid and produces results similar to the 19th century photographic process of photogravure. This masterclass will explore the versatility of photopolymer film. Students will make their own plate, learning how to apply the film to a plate and use it to create an image with photographic or hand-drawn elements. Students will also use the film as an etch resist to create photo-etched plates in an experimental way. The focus of the masterclass will be on researching the possibilities of the technique rather than attempting to achieve perfect photographic images.
Johnny Bugler has used the photopolymer printmaking technique in his artwork for many years, learning from, and collaborating with practitioners in a variety of printmaking institutions. Johnny is a member of Cork Printmakers where he was the Studio Manager for more than ten years. He has exhibited internationally and his work is in many collections including the National Collection at the National Gallery of Ireland.
